Communicate with your patient. You want to make sure you understand their needs and that they understand you are there to help them.

2. Keep your patient’s living areas clean, neat and clutter free!

3. Wash your hands often and use gloves as needed. It is not only for the sake of good hygiene but also good for preventing germs from spreading from you to your patients and to your families.

4. Remember you are not to administer any type of medications to your patient but you do need to remind them at the right time, assist with opening bottles, bring liquids for swallowing, clean up and dispose sharps properly.

5. Communicate with your patient’s families about their needs and expectations as you are caring for someone they love. Be sure that you do so in compliance with HIPPA and protect PHI at all times as you are bound by law to respect your patient’s privacy!

6. Be prepared in case of an emergency. Make sure you have all the required numbers you need to call in case your patient or you have an emergency situation.

7. Always be on time as your patient is counting on you. If you are sick, be sure to call in and inform your agencies coordinator about your absence and they will make the necessary arrangement for a replacement. The goal is to give as much advance notice as possible, to minimize any disruption of service to your patient. You never want to put your patient at risk. Your health and theirs is most important.

8. If you ever have questions, concerns, or you are unsure of what to do in a situation, contact the agency as we are always here to help make Home Care a successful experience for you and your patient.

For more Information Contact
the Recruiting Department at:
718-364-7251 option 7 or
718-364-7260 option 7

Happy Holidays from the Recruitment Department and the First Care Team!

Enrollment for 2011 Home Health Aide and Personal Care Aide trainings are still open! In this case, we will be interested in feedback about you from someone in a related field or who was in a position of responsibility that can judge your work experience, professionalism and reliability.

5 Tips to a Successful Inquiry on Home Health Aide Employment and Home Health Aide/Personal Care Aide Training Opportunities:

· Greet with Introduction- Greetings are essential when inquiring about Home Health Aide/Personal Care Aide employment and training opportunities. I am a Home Health Aide who started out as a Personal Care Aide about a year ago today. I would love to tell you about my experiences working with First Care. I really enjoy working with the staff and with the patients day in and day out. First Care has taught me a lot of valuable lessons and had helped me to become the Home Health Aide that I am today. It’s in my nature to want to help others, especially those that cannot help themselves. When I work my shift and leave at the end of the day I feel wonderful and accomplished because I was able to help and make a difference in someone’s life. In home care it is important to remember that the patient always comes first, always provide great quality care, and always have respect, and consideration for others. I would definitely recommend First Care as the agency of choice for home care services and for employment. Thank you!

7 Stable Jobs

by Anthony Balderrama, CareerBuilder.com writer
As fashion fads come and go each decade, so do employment trends. Back in the late 1990s and very early 2000s, it seemed that all things Internet would be around forever. Employment for dot.com jobs seemed to be an upward trajectory with no limit. Then 2001 came and things changed. Internet-related jobs weren't the first positions to take a hit, and they won't be the last. But through all of these ups and downs -- and it's fair to say that this economy is down -- some jobs fare better than others. The idea of a stable job in this economy might sound impossible to you, but it's not. Looking at the Bureau of Labor Statistics' employment trends, certain industries are showing job growth or remaining flat, even during these tough times. We looked at these industries and then drilled down to see what positions have been poised for job growth over recent years. Of course, geography plays a huge role in how available some of these jobs are, so your city might have taken a bigger hit in some industries than other places have. Still, this is a good place to start if you're looking for some jobs that are still gaining momentum. Here are some of today's stable jobs and their average annual salary:

Personal and Home Care Aides
What they do: Assist people who need care with daily tasks in their own home due to illness or disability. They perform housekeeping chores and help patients bathe or move around the house, depending on their needs.
Education requirements: Much training is on-site and there are opportunities for certification, but experience often is the biggest asset.
Earnings: $22,163

Free HHA or PCA Training Available

We are licensed by the New York State Department Of Health to provide HHA and PCA Training.

Bronx Office :

You can visit our Bronx office at 2488 Grand Concourse, Suite #329 (between 188th Street and Fordham Road).
